Ugh! Wrinkles are the worst! Like age itself, wrinkles seem unavoidable and become more and more troublesome as we age. Of course, there are some things we all can do in order t reduce the visibility of wrinkles, but most of those are not very fun (i.e., staying out of the sun, smiling and frowning less, etc.) But, for most of us, taking steps to avoid wrinkles may be too little, too late. Luckily, there are many options- both surgical and not- that can either get rid of wrinkles altogether, or at least make them less prominent looking. The result: a more youthful and rested look, which let’s face it, is what we all want. There are many options when it comes to doing away with wrinkles, and it is best to consult with a doctor in order to find the best option for each individual.

Topical Treatments to Reduce Wrinkles

There are numerous options when it comes to topical treatments that can reduce the visibility of wrinkles, some are prescribed and some can be bought at the store without a prescription from a doctor. Retinoids are the most effective type. These medical treatments will first cause redness and peeling where applied, but once the peeling stops, wrinkles are less prominent in the area. Other topical treatment options include alpha- hydroxy solutions (also commonly referred to as “fruit acid” topical treatments,) and various types of moisturizers (which are perhaps the least effective, but most cost- effective and easily available of all the wrinkle treatments available.)

Peel Treatments to Reduce Wrinkles

There are two popular types of peel treatments used to reduce wrinkles: glycolic acid peels and deep peels. Glycolic acid peels are much more surface-oriented peels, and thus may only minimally reduce the visibility of wrinkles on the face, especially ones that have deep creases. Deep peel treatments are much more effective at getting rid of deep creases.

Cosmetic Procedures to Reduce Wrinkles

Sometimes peel treatments and topical treatments prove ineffective in getting rid of stubborn wrinkles. This is when it may be time to consider cosmetic procedures, as there are a plethora of options available. Lifts may be the most common of all the options. A brow lift can help get rid of wrinkles in the forehead, which tend to be the deepest types of wrinkles as well as the most common. Brow lifts can also get rid of wrinkles around the eyelids and the eyebrows. A doctor will schedule a consultation with anyone considering having a brow lift procedure don. During the consultation the doctor will examine the forehead in order to determine the best way to go about it, as there are different kinds of lift procedures that produce different results. Other cosmetic procedures that reduce wrinkles are facelifts and injections, such as Botox, that can help in the fight against wrinkles. In the end, a doctor will help determine the severity of the situation and guide you towards the best options that are available to you.
